1 day old 4/27/15

We are officially one day old and doing great.  Lahtsa needed a quick rinse in the shower and rub down with some puppy shampoo last night before bed and we changed out the bedding that was used for the birth.  It was a little smelly.

She didn't get up this morning so we treated her to breakfast in bed.  heated up puppy food mixed with some tasty canned food.  What hungry nursing mom could refuse.  The pups are sleeping, eating and pooping.  All is going great.

Tails and dew claws are scheduled for removal on Thursday at Reber Ranch.  It will not be a highlight to their day but they will start to look more like they should.

Adding number 8

Oops.  I forgot to add a pic of Pup #8

so here she is...

What a beauty!!!

The Arrival

This morning started early around 2am when Lahtsa was noticeably uncomfortable.  She wanted out several times between 2-3am.  Around 3am, her water sack broke and she leaked a lot of liquid.  It was a long morning until the excitement started just after five.

Lets meat the family...

Pup #1

Born at 5:10am, this is largest of the 4 females and second largest overall weighing in at a hefty 11.28 ounces.

Pup #2

This big pup took his time to come out and play.  He waited until 6:15am to come to the party.  He was the biggest of all the pups weighing in at 11.46 ounces.  Whoof!

Pup #3

Finally a little relief for Lahtsa with a little smaller pup to work with.  This Male was in a hurry to follow #2 and showed up at 6:26am.  He was the first Orange and white pup and weighed in at 10.93 ounces

Pup #4

The smallest male but not small enough to be called a runt came next.  Born at 6:40am and weighing in at 10.4 ounces.  pretty darn cute.

Pup #5

With the males winning 3-1, this next female was trying to even up the odds at 6:56am but didn't realize she was the smallest of all the pups weighing in at 10.23 ounces.

Pup #6

This little pup wanted to keep up with the group so she wasted no time in coming next at 7:06am. she isn't a bruiser but weighed in at a respectable 10.58 ounces.

Pup #7

We had to wait almost an hour for the last of the 4 males to show up at 7:57am.  We knew has was in there but didn't know why he was waiting.  He wears a heart on in heat like his mother and weighed in at 10.47 ounces

Pup #8

Last but not least, The last of the litter, the last female and the last of the 3 orange and white pups decided to come out and see us.  We were a little concerned that she was gonna stay inside but came out at 8:50am.  She weighed in at 10.4 ounces.

Now the family is complete.  Out safe and together.  Lahtsa is exhausted but yet doing a great job as a new mom.  She is being a little protective right now as she should be so no visitors for a few weeks.  She has big plans of eating sleeping and making sure these little pups get everything they need.

The final count down

Today, Lahtsa started to discharge a yellow material from the "business end."  She has dropped her plug.  We can now expect the big moment in the next 1-3 days.  Very exciting times.  Stay tuned as the blog will get very busy with info and lots and lots of Pictures!

Kicking and Poking

4/22/15

It could be any day now.  On one hand, I am hopeful for this to happen sooner vs, later only because I can tell she is uncomfortable.  On the other hand, I am out of town for work tomorrow through Saturday evening.  I don't want to miss this but the rest of the fam is prepared with birthing supplies.  Our vet is on notice and we have the contact info for the 24 hour vet if needed for after hours problems.

There is no more running for this big girl.  She does the waddle now!  :-)

She is getting a lot of snuggle and pampering time.  The pups are very active right now.  You can see them bulging and bumping out of the sides of her body.  When you lay your hand on the side of her body, they are busy little bodies bouncing all around inside of her.

I took her temp this morning and she registered at 99.4 F.  It is a little lower than her average.  this could be a sign that we are getting very close.

STAY TUNED!!!

1 week count down

4/20/15

Day 60 is on Thursday.  Pups could arrive anytime but we are expecting a Thursday through Monday delivery date.  The Birthing pool is in place and she seems to be OK with it.

She weighed in 44.5 lbs. today and is up from he pre-pregnancy weight of 32.5 lbs.  The gas fire place is running, the bed is ready, the scale is set up, we have other emergency supplies for the big day.  I guess we are ready.

Now if I could just get my boys out of the tub...

Not that Lahtsa is complaining. :-)

I guess when you are that uncomfortable, its nice to have a little extra attention.  You can feel the pups inside her and today we actually saw one bulging out on her skin while it was moving around inside her.  The checkup at the vet went well today and we have an estimated puppy count.

Get a close look!  how many do you see?

How about now?

The vet counts 8 skulls and spines.  I guess we will know for sure with in the week!  Stay tuned for more new and puppy pics!

Who is Lahtsa

Who is Lahtsa?

Born February 12th, 2010 and registered AKC as Sheega Lahtsa Moxie and goes by "Lahtsa".  She descends from great lines on both sides.  Her sire was "CH' Mustang's Sterling Edition CH" "Colt".  He is champion show dog and fine bird dog from Morgun's Brittanies, in Tacoma WA.  Lahtsa was born from High Octane "Hailey" who is very sharp bird dog as well as companion.  She is also a decendent of DC Royal Brit Starbuck of Auten who is in the Bird Dog Hall of Fame.

She loves to hunt and is an important member of our family.  We were lucky enough to meet her at 4 weeks old and had several more visits before we decided that she was the one to be part of our family.

Let's meet the bachelor:

"Jack Frost" came highly recommended from Morgun's Brittanies and it only took one look to know he was the one.  He is a great bird dog and family companion as well.  We are quite hopeful that the blend of these two dogs will create beautiful future hunters and family members.

We are anticipation pups around April 23rd-26th.  We will be getting Xrays around the 20th to better know how many pups to expect.  Stay tuned for more info and pics to follow...
